| Introduction : |
Formic
Acid, another name is ant acid, the molecular formula is HCOOH. The
formula weight is 46.02. Formic acid is a kind of leuco-liquid with irritant odour and is
one of the simplest carboxylic acid. It contains only one carbon atom and is the strongest
acid among the organic acid. In the natural world it exists mainly in the ant and in the
secretion of bee and mosquito and in the castor-oil plant. Because it is the strong acid,
it is corrosive. It can cause vesicant bubble in the skin, but cant harm the cell. |

| Packaging
: |
Formic Acid is available in the market in sealed 25-kg attractive blue
coloured HDPE carboys and in tanker load for bigger consumers. |
|
| Precautions
: |
Formic Acid
decomposes into Carbon Monoxide and water. The decomposition rate strongly dependent on
conc. and temp. Containers, drums & cans should be protected from heat & sunlight.
Formic Acid is neither explosive nor spontaneously flammable in air. It is however
corrosive, flammable or combustible.
Formic Acid is corrosive liquid. Storage and Delivery are carried out in tanks made
auslenilic Cr-NI steels for Ex. AISI 316L.Graphite PTFE should be used for gasket.
The liquid product causes hums. The vapour or spray irritating eyes and respiratory
system. The vapour should not be inhaled. Never attempt to neutralize the acid on body or
in the eyes. |
