CHROMIC ACID is available in the form of small flakes of dark red or chocolate colour. Readily soluble in water. It is hygroscopic and forms a saturated of 62.6% CrO3 at 25oC.

CHROMIC ACID is used in electroplating industry, electrodeposition of chromium both as decorative and as hard chrome type is done with chromic acid. Also used for passivating or inhibition of metal surface, as an oxidising agent for organic chemicals and as a laboratoy reagent. Widely used in wood preservation industry.
